I feel it is important to point out that Jack Kirby is not only a genre unto himself, but he’s also the originator (or, co-originator, with Joe Simon) of February’s genre, Romance comics. While I’m not an aficionado of that genre, I would still classify myself as a low-level fan—which basically means I’ve read far too many Romance comics to not consider myself a fan. I think I’d have to include the entire genre in my top five, along with Captain America, Dr. Doom, Fin Fang Foom (representing all the Marvel giant monsters), and, because I believe the inclusion of “normal” supporting characters makes for better superhero comics, Alicia Masters.

Bringing the knowledge on Ookla the Mok! I never knew he was a Bruin. He was one of the good guys. I want to say he is the Chewbacca of Thundarr the Barbarian, because then I can say Chewie is the Ben Grimm of Star Wars. Actually, him and Han combined, because we have to squeeze five into four (ignoring that the five star warriors were never on the Falcon at the same time ). You know, the Darth Vader/Darkseid comparison has been made so often since we found Ben Kenobi could be Highfather raising Orion that we forget Annakin hung around Obi-Wan in his youth, and blames him for having to armor up.
