I have really enjoyed your look at this series.
ReplyDeleteWas the world ready for an anti-capitalist book at that moment in time? Probably not. Even now, in this modern world where plenty of people are anti-capitalism, those books seem to fail. But kudos to Marvel and Ellis for breaking out of the mold and trying.
But you can see just how much Marvel wants to say 'that is behind us' immediately. The cover screams 'Stan and Jack classic' with the floating heads. And putting it in current continuity is another hook to try to settle a waning crowd. Perhaps too late ...
Good point about the throwback nature of the story and cover. Not just a throwback to the (then current) 90s, but to the 60s as well!
