I feel it is important to point out that Jack Kirby is not only a genre unto himself, but he’s also the originator (or, co-originator, with Joe Simon) of February’s genre, Romance comics. While I’m not an aficionado of that genre, I would still classify myself as a low-level fan—which basically means I’ve read far too many Romance comics to not consider myself a fan. I think I’d have to include the entire genre in my top five, along with Captain America, Dr. Doom, Fin Fang Foom (representing all the Marvel giant monsters), and, because I believe the inclusion of “normal” supporting characters makes for better superhero comics, Alicia Masters.
ReplyDeleteThe genre episodes rank among my favorites from the network, along with the glorious 100th episode of the Quarter Bin, the Watchmen mini-series, and of course, the discussion of how to organize your comics. Keep up the good work.
