ReplyDeleteFirst off, interesting to hear your personal moratorium on covering issues under the umbrella of other fans. But I for one would love to hear your thoughts on Supergirl. I want to hear more people talk about her and other takes as well!
On to the issues -
Firestorm - 100 issues! I definitely around the first 3 years of the Fury of Firestorm and think the first 18 months or so were tremendous comic book fun. Love this book, one of the first books I truly sought out to buy monthly.
Generic - as the 5th of 5 children born to a teacher father and stay-at-home mom, I remember 'generic groceries' vividly and in some ways, almost fondly. Never heard of this comic but I am intrigued.
Green Lantern - Jessic Cruz is part of the new Green Lantern Corps book, as the leader of Oa! She is one of many characters in that book so don't know if she is a focus. But she is there, and in a position of leadership.
Groo - do you know I have never read one panel of Groo! Complete blind spot.
Lastly, the concept of the 'ghost' collection rings true. Mine aren't from selling/culling. Mine are more from a 'parental purge' of loose books somewhere in the med school time period. A ton of DC horror anthology issues were lost in this way. When I see some of the more memorable ones for cheap at cons, I buy.
Very sad to hear about the selling of your Flash collection. When I was a young lad, I collected Flash monthly from 270 - 284. This no easy task when surfing the spinner rack and certainly unusual for 9yr old me who bought more on the cover than anything else. My first true monthly title!

Thanks for the latest look into your collection. The Ghost Collection is a poignant idea… I adored Seventies Flash, with Barry cataloguing his comic book collection in suburbia, tell us your thoughts on Golden Glider and Rainbow Raider.
ReplyDeleteAnd please do give us some Firestorm coverage, as Shag says, you don’t need permission; if individual characters or teams are left to a single podcaster we get the same perspectives, and the specialist podcaster doesn’t get to hear anyone else talking about their favourite. I was with Martin and Ronnie and Lorraine from start to finish, let’s have some chat!
As Anj says, Jessica Cruz is currently in charge of the Green Lantern Corps. So pretty much wasted. I gave up on the latest series, it has too many new alien characters for my old brain to cope with.
I remember Marvel advertising the Generic Comic Book, I couldn’t conceive of anyone wanting to buy such a thing, it’s an idea worth three pages in the back of Not Brand Echh, or an issue of What If? that falls short of the universe ending.
I thought Golden Glider was pretty, and Rainbow Raider -- not so much.
