More Adam Strange!!! I love this book! Russell Burbage hooked me up with a copy a few months back, I didn't realize there were others in the series and I don't recall ever seeing any of these when they came out. I may have to track down some more of these. I love the Elliot S! Margin tale from the book, it really was a classic throwback to the era in feel.
ReplyDeleteOn to the Morrison story...I love the Jerry Ordway art, and while I appreciate what Morrison was trying to do here, instead of a story acting as a Meta tribute to Schwartz, I would have rather Morrison just have written a prose piece as a tribute and ran that on the inside of the front and back cover, like they did with the Robert Greenberger essays in all of the DC Millennium Edition reprints from a few years prior to this. Then we could have had a second story that was more reflective of the era. Penned by someone like Cary Bates or Ordway himself. Still a great book and a nice tribute to Julie.

I had never heard of ANY of these books until grabbing this one. And it as a fun surprise. I can't imagine an editor trying to "rein in" Grant Morrison, that has to be the hardest part of the job. Standing alone, the Morrison story wouldn't have worked for me, but together, in context, having two so different stories worked for me.
