It is always hard to know what defines an 'adventure' book. It feels like a story that is more about the action and less about the environment. So some crime stories are adventures, some sci-fi books are adventures, etc etc.
ReplyDeleteI do think jungle, pirate, and explorer stories always fall into this category but I have never been a big Tarzan guy or that ilk.
I guess if you pushed me, I'd say Indiana Jones is my biggest adventure hero. Love the movies (mostly the first three) and dabbled in some of the kid novels and comics.
Maybe, The Shadow is my 2nd favorite 'adventure' hero. I have read his pulp novels, comics, listened to the old radio episodes, and even liked the Alec Baldwin movie.
Fun discussion for sure. But it is where to draw the line that is tough. John Carter feels like adventure. Adam Strange feels more Sci-Fi. In many ways their premises are the same.
